L.Acid Writes to His Former Teacher
Monday, July 10th, 2006Dear Mrs. Kim,
New York was a week ago, actually, and even though I promised to write to you while I was there you must believe me when I tell you that I have not had the opportunity to get online since the fourth of July.
Can you believe that I actually slept through the 4th of July fireworks in Times Square? I was in my hotel in Manhattan taking a nap during the celebrations. But I suppose that once you’ve seen one fireworks show you’ve seen them all. In truth I was a little homesick, and I longed to be in Washington State at my family celebration.
New York is a terrible place. The next time I am forced to drive in that trafficky mess it will be because I have work to do, not because I am there enjoying myself.
Currently I am in Chicago, having already passed through Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, London, and Detroit. Montreal was one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen, with many little restaurants serving small meals on sidewalks, and beautiful people strolling about speaking French to each other.
French sounds so fluid and musical, unless one understands what they are saying. Then one just hears the same old stories of back pain and aching teeth and about why the speaker’s mortgage is so high. But when one is ignorant, the language, indeed the whole world, is beautiful.
Write me back!
